About  ZELL AM SEE

Mountain, lake & glacier – these are the extensive holiday themes of the region. The indisputable center of your holiday, whether ski holiday in winter or family holiday in summer, is the town of Zell am See. The town of Zell am See is located at the base of the mountain Schmittenhöhe and at the shores of Lake Zell in close proximity to the glacier Kitzsteinhorn.

DAY  TOURS in SURROUNDING – free entrance with our Zell am See summer card

Glacier day in the summer – Even Yetis would be envious of our 3000 m snow-covered Kitzsteinhorn peak in summer! The unique ICE ARENA provides adventure in summer snow with slippery slides and a magic carpet. The perfect opportunity to have a snowball fight in summer! The ICE Arena is open in July and August. Outside these times there is a cool alternative program on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier offering great activities in Gipfelwelt 3.000, a short hiking tour, and much more

Boat trips – From where do you have the best view to the Zell am See peninsula? There is a place in Zell am See-Kaprun, from where you have the best views to the historic old town and its beautiful buildings; to the alpine landscape behind the town, the snow-covered mountains of the Hohe Tauern and lush, green slopes of the Pinzgau Grass Hills. Enjoy unforgettable insights into and vistas of the region from a very special perspective ON Lake Zell.

Sigmund Thun  Gorge –  Over 30 metres deep and 320 metres long cuts the Kaprun Ache its way through the Kaprun Valley. And cutting is really the right term here. Relentlessly forces the Kaprun Ache it’s way from the glaciers high above the Kaprun Valley toward the valley. Steep drops and altitude meters accelerate the speed and release the pure force of the water. Nothing will stop this force, neither rock nor stone. It is this force with which the Kaprun Ache has shaped the Sigmund Thun Gorge just outside the town of Kaprun. The stream has cut the gorge into the rocks, shaped distinctive smooth sections, and created potholes and scours. This process continues to this day and documents the latest period of the Kaprun Valley’s history of origins.

Krimmel Waterfalls –  The course of the Krimmler Ache river begins where the glaciers of the Großvenediger and Dreiherrenspitze “bleed” in summer. The mountain stream meanders through the beautiful Krimmler Ache Valley before it plunges down over a steep drop into the Upper Pinzgau, thus bringing the world-famous Krimml Waterfalls to life. With 380 meters in height, these are the highest waterfalls in Europe, and they are not only stunningly beautiful but also soothing and healing. The ions in the water, released through the impact of the water on the rock, have a therapeutic and healing effect on the body and mind …

Kaprun Castle  – The castle towers majestically above  Kaprun and still radiates the atmosphere of the original fortress. A bastion above the valley, a structure overlooking everything and thick walls that not only provide sufficient protection but also signal enemies that not many ways will lead past the fortress and its defenders. According to historians, Kaprun Castle was built in the 12th century. It was built for the very reasons why castles were built back then: as a retreat, as a fortress, as the residence of noble families and as a status symbol. Kaprun Castle is still a stately building today and takes beholders and visitors back to bygone times

Salzburg city –  Tradition, culture and thousands of years of history meet today’s modern, trendy way of life. The City of Salzburg is a cultural stronghold, art metropolis, and center of classical music. Beautiful squares, old buildings, lovely restaurants, cool bars and omnipresent shopping experience are waiting between Mozart’s birthplace, Hohensalzburg Castle, Residenzgalerie art gallery, the Domquartier quarter and the Salzburg Zoo. A visit to Salzburg is an absolute must ..

Grossglockner high mountains road Not an excursion destination as such but an adventure going on for miles and taking you to bend by bend deeper into the amazing world of the high mountains. Start in Fusch a.d. Glocknerstraße and follow this historic and stunning structure via the Fuscher Törl and the Hochtor either to the Franz-Josef-Höhe and the Pasterzen Glacier or to Heiligenblut into the neighboring state of Carinthia. Enjoy your drive

Ice cave World of Giants – Until the end of the 19th century, no-one knew about the world’s largest ice cave. After its discovery, it turned step by step into one of the top excursion destinations in the Salzburger Land. For good reason, we think. Mysterious, exciting, a great experience for the entire family; that is what the World of the Ice Giants inside the Tennen Mountains is. A worthwhile visit whatever the weather in summer and winter because the temperature in the cave is always the same …

Swarovski crystal world– A fantastic excursion destination famous beyond the Pinzgau District and even beyond the Salzburger Land. The artist André Heller has created a subterranean adventure world, guarded by a botanical giant, in Wattens in Tyrol on the other side of the Gerlos Pass. Discover the caves and halls of the giant maze and immerse yourself in the mystical world of crystals. Learn interesting facts about the magical attraction of the world of glitter and be inspired by the pure beauty …
